TIMO Registration Process

To participate in TIMO, you need to register through their official website or authorized agencies in your country. Depending on your location, the registration process may differ slightly.

TIMO Registration Mode

You can register for the competition online, which makes it convenient no matter where you are. If your school or an educational institution is an official partner of TIMO, you might also be able to register through them.

TIMO Registration Fees

The registration fees for TIMO may vary based on your region and the stage of the competition you are registering for (Heat Round or Final Round). Typically, these fees cover the administration of the exam and, in some cases, participation certificates.

You need to pay INR 1,800 as the registration fee for the TIMO Heats (country level round) and you need to pay travel expenses for the Final TIMO Olympiad held in Bangkok, Thailand.

TIMO Important dates

You must note that the registration deadline for the Heats round is November 24, 2024. TIMO heats round will be held online on dates 7-8 December 2024

TIMO Eligibility Criteria

You must know that the TIMO competition is open to students from kindergarten to Grade 12. Participants are divided into various categories based on their current grade level:

  •  Kindergarten 1 and 2
  •  Primary 1 to 6 (Grade 1 to 6)
  •  Secondary 1 to 3 (Grades 7 to 9)
  •  Senior Secondary 4 to 6 (Grade 10 to 12)

So, no matter what grade you’re in, there’s a level specifically designed for you, ensuring that the competition remains fair and challenging for all participants.

TIMO Exam Pattern and Syllabus

TIMO has two rounds: the Heat Round and the Final Round.

1. Heat Round:

You will solve 25 questions in 90 minutes with a total Score of 100 marks in English or your regional language.

These questions are divided into five key areas:

  • Logical Thinking – 5 Questions
  • Arithmetic/Algebra  – 5 Questions
  • Number Theory  – 5 Questions
  • Geometry  – 5 Questions
  • Combinatorics  – 5 Questions

Each question tests your problem-solving skills and understanding of mathematics. There are no multiple-choice questions, so you’ll need to work out the solutions carefully.

2. Final Round:

If you perform well in the Heat Round (scoring at least Bronze), you’ll move to the Final Round. In the Final Round, you’ll face 30 questions for over 120 minutes with a total score of 150 marks in English or your regional language.

These questions will cover the same five categories, but the difficulty level will be higher.

  • Logical Thinking – 6 Questions
  • Arithmetic/Algebra  – 6 Questions
  • Number Theory  – 6 Questions
  • Geometry  – 6 Questions
  • Combinatorics  – 6 Questions

The Final Round usually takes place in Thailand, but in certain circumstances (like the pandemic), it was held online.

TIMO’s focus is more on critical thinking and problem-solving, so it encourages you to think beyond textbook learning. The syllabus for TIMO includes all the mathematical concepts you’re learning in school, such as:

TIMO Awards and Recognition

TIMO awards are given based on your performance in both the Heat and Final Rounds. Here’s what you can aim for:

1. Medals:

  •      Gold: Score above 80%
  •      Silver: Score between 60%80%
  •      Bronze: Score between 40%60%

2. Certificates:

     Participation Certificate for all students

     Merit certificates for high performers

3. Trophies:

The top performers in each category also have the chance to win special trophies, including Champion, 1st Runner Up, and 2nd Runner Up.

4. Global Invitations:

If you perform exceptionally well in TIMO, you may even be invited to other prestigious math competitions globally.

Important Points to Remember for TIMO

  • Preparation: Focus on developing strong problem-solving skills across different areas of mathematics, rather than just memorizing formulas.
  • Heat Round: This is the qualifying round. Even if you don’t make it to the Final Round, you’ll still gain valuable experience.
  • Final Round: If selected, you’ll either travel to Thailand for the final exam or take it online, depending on the global situation.
  • Participation: Whether you win a medal or not, participating in TIMO is an achievement. It’s a great way to improve your skills and interact with other young mathematicians around the world.
