Three Digit Multiplication Quickly Using Vedic Maths – Mental Maths Tips & Tricks

Whether you are a third-grade student or in graduation, everyone follows the same method to solve the three-digit multiplication. It’s okay and gives you the correct result but it’s slow. Want an easier way to do it quickly and accurately? You’ve come to the right place!

Vedic Maths Mental Calculation will make the steps easy and help you to solve big calculations that are simple and fun. These easy methods allow you to solve problems faster and show off your skills. Let’s get started!

The Basic Way to Multiply Three-Digit Numbers

Let’s simplify the old, familiar way of multiplying two three-digit numbers.

First, you multiply the one’s place of the bottom number with the top number. Then, move to the tens place, multiply, and remember to add a zero. Finally, multiply the hundreds of places and add two zeros. After all three steps, you combine the results to get your final answer. It works, but it’s slow and a bit complicated!

After that, you add everything together to get your final answer.

Sounds like a lot of steps, right? Let’s solve this problem.

Three-Digit Multiplication Using Vedic Maths

Let’s understand it better with an example. In this example, we are going to perform 3-digit multiplication using the Vedic Math Urdhva-Tiryagbhyam Method. The Urdhva-Tiryagbhyam Method is a very efficient and quick way to multiply two or more numbers, and it is especially useful when dealing with large numbers.

It is highly recommended that you first check out two-digit multiplication using the Urdhva-Tiryagbhyam Method for a better understanding of this concept. We are going to use a step-by-step approach since you’re doing it for the first time.

Understand with Examples: Three Digit Multiplication

Now let’s take an example to understand this method better.

Example 1: 234 x 312 =?

Step 1: We will perform vertical multiplication for the first time and multiply 4 with 2, therefore 4 x 2 = 8.

Step 2: We will perform our first crisscross multiplication, multiply 3 with 2 and 1 with 4 and add them together.

2 x 3 = 6, 1 x 4 = 4.

Now we add both the results, 6 + 4 = 10, we write 0 and take 1 as a carryover.

Step 3: We will carry out our 3rd step by multiplying criss-cross with 2 x 2 + 3 x 1 + 3 x 4. We will get 19 as our answer and we will add 1 as the previous carry hence it will be 20.

Step 4:  Now we will perform criss-cross multiplication further, we will now criss-cross multiply 2 with 3 and 3 with 3 and then we will add the results.
2x 1 + 3 x 3 = 11, and then we will add the previous carry that 2 and then our final result will be 13.

Now we will write 3 and take 1 as a carryover for the next step.

Step 5: In the final step, we will multiply 2 by 3, as the last leftmost operational left. We will perform our last multiplication vertically.
2 x 3 = 6.

Now we will add the previous carry i.e. 1 and we will have 7 as our final result.

Here, you might think that it is more calculative, but only with a little practice will you realise that you can solve questions like this with the help of the Vedic Math method. You can solve questions in your head, mentally, without the need for a notebook and pen.
