Calculating the square of numbers can be time-consuming and prone to error. Vedic Math School has brought you a series in which we will learn to calculate the square of the number Very Easily and Uniquely. For the Convenience, In this article, we will learn how to find the squares of numbers nearer to 50.
Our Approach
To make this process easier, it is highly recommended that you simply learn the squares until 30 to make this process a lot easier. On the brighter side, we luckily are familiar with squares from 2 to 20, we will only have to learn from 20 to 30.
Now, we are going to discuss how to find the squares of numbers nearer to 50. There are two possibilities: Sometimes, a number may be less than or greater than 50.
So, we are going to cover this topic in two parts, squares of numbers that are less than 50 and in the second part, we are going to understand the method for numbers greater than 50. Processes are almost identical in both, the last step will change.
Square Table From 1 to 30:
As I said, it is highly recommended that you simply learn the squares until 30 to make this process easier. I am giving you the square table to remember the value so that it will be easy for you to understand the next part.

Step-by-Step Guide for Square of Any Number That is Less than 50
Example: Find the Square of 47.
Step 1: Subtract the Number from 50
First, take your target number (let’s say 47) and find out how much less it is than with our base 50.
Example: 50−47=3
So our difference from the base is 3.
Step 2: Square the Result of Step 1
Now, square the result from Step 1. This gives us the last two digits of our answer.
Example: 32=9, so we’ll keep 09 as the last part of our answer.
(In this case, forcefully take only 2 digits, if there are three, we take the last 2 and if there is only one, we add a zero on the left side.)
Step 3: Subtract the difference from 25
Here, We will always subtract the difference from 25 so we have to minus that number 25 – 3 = 22.
Step 4: Combine the Results
Now, club the results of Step 2 and Step 3.
Example: 22 and 09 = 2209
So the square of 47 is 2209.
Understand with More Examples:
Example 1: Find the square of 48 using the Vedic Math Method
- Step 1: 50 – 48 = 2
- Step 2: 2^2 = 4 (Write as 04 for two-digit format)
- Step 3: 25 – 2 = 23
- Step 4: Combine 23 and 04
Answer: 48^2 = 2304
Example 2: Find the Square of 46 using the Vedic Math Method
- Step 1: 50 – 46 = 4
- Step 2: 4 × 4 = 16 (last two digits)
- Step 3: 25 – 4 = 21 (first part)
- Step 4: Combine 21 and 16
Answer: 46^2=2116
Part 2: Step-by-Step Guide for Square of Any Number That is Greater than 50
Example: Find the Square of 57.
Step 1: Subtract the Number from 50
First, take your target number (let’s say 57) and find out how much bigger it is than with our base 50.
Example: 57−50=7
So our difference from the base is 7.
Step 2: Square the Result of Step 1
Now, square the result from Step 1. This gives us the last two digits of our answer.
Example: 7^2=49, so we’ll keep 49 as the last part of our answer.
Step 3: Add the Difference into 25
Here, We will always add the difference into 25 so we have the number 25 + 7 = 32.
Step 4: Combine the Results
Now, club the results of Step 2 and Step 3.
Example: 32 and 49 = 3249
So the square of 57 is 3249.
Understand with More Examples:
Example 1: Find the square of 56 using the Vedic Math Method
Step 1: 56 – 50 = 6
Step 2: 6^2 = 36 (Write as 04 for two-digit format)
Step 3: 25 + 6 = 31
Step 4: Combine 31 and 36
Answer: 56^2 = 3136
