Master Four Digit Multiplication in Seconds with Vedic Maths–Tips & Tricks

Are you looking for an easier and quicker way to solve massive number equations? Well, stop here! Vedic Maths will make math easier and quicker for you. With these simple techniques, you are sure to amaze people with your speed in mental math. Ready to get in? Well, let’s get started!

The Standard Procedure for Four Digit Multiplication

Let’s begin with a traditional approach toward multiplying two numbers that have four digits. You will multiply the bottom number’s digit in the one’s position by the top number, then move to the tens place, and multiply, remembering to add a zero afterwards.

You’ve got hundreds of places with two zeros attached and then thousands of places with three zeros. Once you’ve completed these steps, you sum everything up for the final result.

Four-Digit Multiplication Using Vedic Math

We will now understand Four Digit Multiplication with the help of an example. It is recommended that you check out 2 Digit Multiplication and 3 Digit Multiplication for better understanding.

The Urdhva-Tiryagbhyam Method for Four-Digit Multiplication

The Urdhva-Tiryagbhyam Method is a very efficient and quick way to multiply two or more numbers, and it is especially useful when dealing with large numbers. This method also helps to improve mental math skills and enhances overall mathematical abilities. It is an important technique in Vedic Mathematics and is still used today by many worldwide.

It is highly recommended that you first check out two digit and three digit multiplication and The Urdhva-Tiryagbhyam Method for a better understanding of this concept.

Understand with Example:

Example: Solve 1234 x 2312 by using the Criss-Cross Vedic Math Method.

Now we will follow the same vertical-cross-cross-vertical method of multiplication to solve this question in the following steps.

Step 1: Let’s write down the question in order like we do usually. We will begin from the right side, with a vertical multiplication first.

Step 2: The second step includes the criss-cross multiplication of 2 x 3 and 1 x 4 from both numbers. We will add them too before writing it down.

2 x 3 + 1 x 4 => 10, so we will write 0 after 8 and take 1 as a carry.

Step 3: Now we will follow the same criss-cross multiplication with the next pair leftwards. 2 x 2 + 3 x 1 + 3 x 4 => 19 and add 1 from the carryover, which gives us 20. Hence we will write again 0 but now with a carry 2.

Step 4: Now we will follow the crisscross multiplication method again for the last time. 1 x 2 + 2 x 1 + 3 x 3 + 4 x 2 = 21. 21 + 2 = 23, because we had 2 as a carryover. So we will write 3 and take 2 again as a carry.

Step 5: We will now do the same as in step 3, with 123 from 1234 and 231 from 2314. We will apply the crisscross method in the left-hand side triplet. 1 x 1 + 2 x 3 + 2 x 3 = 13. 13 + 2 = 15, because we have 2 left as a carryover. We will write 5 and take 1 as a carry.

Step 6: Now we will again apply the crisscross method but with the two left-hand side numbers. 1 x 3 + 2 x 2 = 7 adding that previous carry 7 + 1 = 8. So we will write 8 and move on to our final step.

Step 7: Now for the final step, we will vertically multiply 1 and 2 which is 2, hence we will write 2 on the left-hand side and 2853008 is our answer
