HKIMO Olympiad Registration Overview
If you are an Indian student or an International student willing to participate in HKIMO, you will have to compete in two levels. The first level is the HKIMO Heats Round and the second level is the HKIMO Final.

HKIMO Olympiad Eligibility Criteria
You can take HKIMO if you are studying between grades K.G to 12. There are no specific eligibility criteria for HKIMO 2024-2025. If you are willing to participate in HKIMO Olympiad, you can register yourself individually or your school can register your candidature. Only Indian students can register for the Heats round (Country level round) through the Global Olympiads Academy (G.O.A) official website.
The eligibility requirements for the Hong Kong International Mathematics Olympiad (HKIMO) are:
- Students in grades KG through 12 are eligible to compete in the HKIMO Heat Round and Final.
- Students who get a Gold, Silver, or Bronze Award in the HKIMO Heat Round or Depth Of Knowledge Assessment (DOKA) are eligible to compete in the HKIMO Final.
- Entry to the HKIMO is on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Make sure to consider the Heats and Finals rounds as two separate exams, even though eligibility for Finals is through the Heats round and Finals may be conducted in the Hong Kong/Macau region and participants must cover their travel fees.
HKIMO Olympiad Exam Pattern
If you are going to participate in the HKIMO Olympiad Exam, you must know that you need to answer open-ended questions which means that you need to elaborate on points instead of writing simple yes or no. You will have to complete the first HKIMO Heats country-level round in 90 minutes and for the HKIMO Global rounds, you will be allotted 120 minutes.
HKIMO’s exam pattern differs slightly from those of other Mathematics Olympiads, which primarily consist of multiple choice problems. The Exam Paper of HKIMO consists of open-ended Questions.
All the students like you studying in any of the grades have 90 minutes to complete the exam in Heats Round. There are a total 25 number of Questions, 5 from each section and the score per question is 4. So, the total marks for HKIMO stage one Heats is 100.
The second stage of HKIMO is the Global Final Round, which is 120 minutes long. There are a total of 30 questions and the score per question is 5. The questions are 6 from each section and the total score is 150 again the question format is open-ended questions.

5 main topics: Logical Thinking, Arithmetic (Kindergarten / Primary Section) / Algebra(Secondary Section), Number Theory, Geometry, and combinatorics.
